Vancouver, BC - On October 2, 2005, Rae Phillips of Sutton Premier Realty, a breast cancer survivor, will run along her husband, Lorne Phillips, and their 24-year-old son Jordan, in the CIBC Run for the Cure. All proceeds from this annual, nationwide charity event will go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The Foundation supports research, education and awareness programs, and advocates early diagnosis and effective treatments as it aspires to create a future without this disease.

Rae Phillips was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2004. She underwent 10 months of treatment before she came back to work this May. "Some friends of mine ran for me last year, giving me strength for the tough time during my therapy," she says. "Now I am able to do the run myself, and I hope to attract as many donations as possible," Phillips states as one of her personal goals.

Participants in the Run for the Cure can walk or run the 1-kilometre or 5-kilometre course. In this run and into the future, Rae Phillips and her family are in it for the long distance. Donations in her name can be made through the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation ´s website at www.cbcf.org, then click "Donate", then "Run for the Cure", then "Support a Participant" and enter the name "Rae Phillips" and her run location, which is Vancouver.

Now in its 14th year, the run was started in 1992 by a small group of volunteers who wanted to raise awareness and funds for the cause. The first event took place in Toronto. More than 1,500 participants raised $85,000. Last year, over 40 communities and 170,000 Canadians participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure. Together, they raised an impressive $21 million.
