International Teams Canada is a Christian missionary aid organization that has focused on helping refugees, urban poor, and children for over 20 years. With its national headquarters located in Elmira, ITC has been apart of helping positive impact internationally all for God' glory! International Teams Canada annually organizes and hosts an event called "Ride for Refugees". The "Ride for Refugees" started two years ago with a couple dozen cyclists and a dream to help some of the 35 million refugees worldwide that International Teams ministers to, including those newly arriving to the GTA, Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo. The first year we raised $26,000 with 25 riders cycling a total of 1000km. Last year riders' total jumped to $90 000 and together they all pumped their legs to carry them over 5000 kilometers. It was incredible to see so much passion and spandex in one place!
This year we are significantly increasing the sweat, food and fun factor to make way for the expected increase in riders and teams to more than 400. It's going to be great and we know with certainty "Ride for Refugees 2006" will have a huge impact on both the participants and the recipients.
The Details for Ride For Refugees 2006 :
The event itself is one giant awesome cycling ride! Participants register online at www.rideforefugees.com and sign-up for their choice of distance: 25km, 50km, 75km, or 100km. From there, registrants raise sponsorship (either through donors donating online at www.rideforrefugees.com or through cash or cheque), then come on October 14th alongside about 400 people. The day itself includes a nice country route in Floradale complete with water stations, volunteers, etc. Upon returning from the route, participants and guests can join in for a HUGE BBQ complete with great food and great bands! Imagine-youth, young adults, adults, and wiser adults coming together for an exciting one day mission to impact refugees internationally!
