Hamilton, ON - We often make donations and contributions to organizations in our communities based on how they have affected the lives of those closest to us. Andrea Maddox, salesperson with Sutton Group - Innovative Realty Inc.* has chosen to contribute to the Canadian Cancer Association, an organization dear to her heart. Diagnosed with Hodgkins disease (cancer that affects the lymphatic system) at the tender age of nineteen, Andrea made the choice to live every day as a gift.

"At twenty, I was cured after extensive radiation therapy and getting my spleen removed", Andrea reveals. Five years ago, the mother of two boys joined the Canadian Cancer society as a volunteer at their annual Daffodil Days event. She prepares the daffodils and sells them on the street along with many other volunteers who raised $71,000 during the 2006 event in the Hamilton - Wentworth area. As an avid supporter of breast cancer research, Andrea sells Thingamaboob key chains that remind women how important screening is in the early detection of breast cancer. Andrea shares, "There are so many organizations that need volunteers. It is easier to choose when you have a strong connection and past history with a given organization. I feel indebted and lucky to be here (Hodgkins can be a fatal disease). Every day is a gift and I choose to live it as such and contribute my part to the community." Through her proactive participation in the Cancer Association, Andrea strives to increase awareness and send a message to people affected by cancer, "You must think positively and persevere to beat the disease. Early detection is important, so be aware of your body and visit your doctor when in doubt".

Andrea has recently joined the School Council in her community and helps raise funds for new books, musical instruments, gym equipment and other school supplies through crafts and bake sales. She skillfully juggles her real estate career and family with her volunteering initiatives.
