Toronto, ON - From August 15-17, REALTOR® Lisa Hipgrave of Sutton - Partners Realty Inc., Brokerage* will be working hard to support HIV/AIDS programs in Africa. She will be participating in the Tri-Adventure, a triathlon in Ontario that involves swimming, running, canoe paddling and cycling. She will be fundraising for the event as well, with all proceeds going towards helping those affected by AIDS in Africa.
The Tri-Adventure was founded by Danny Nashman in 2005. He has organized several successful fundraising events for AIDS-related organizations. He decided to create the Tri-City Adventure to challenge individuals physically and mentally and raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS programs in Africa. This event benefits Stephen Lewis Foundation projects, which raises funds for community-based initiatives in Africa. Over the years, the event has generated over $200,000. "I really believe in this cause; money raised is given to places that need it most", expressed Lisa, who is participating for the first time.
Day 1 of the Tri-Adventure will begin at Camp Wahanowin on Friday, August 15, where an individual swims 3 km or runs 15 km. Day 2 involves canoe paddling 15 km along Lake Couchiching to McRae Point Provincial Park; on the same day, they cycle 23 km to the evening campground at Point of Mara Park. On the last day, they will cycle 120 km along the east side of Lake Simcoe back to Toronto. After the big event, everyone will come together to celebrate with a barbeque and a presentation of the cheque to the Stephen Lewis Foundation. "I chose to do the triathlon because I am a road bike enthusiast and have participated in similar events before", said Lisa. All participants of the Tri-Adventure need to raise a minimum of $1,000 in pledges and Lisa's personal goal is $5,000, which will be achieved through various fundraising events she will organize.
Lisa is a very active individual and enjoys supporting community events that involve exercise. For two years in a row, she has participated in the Friends for Life Bike Rally, which benefits the Toronto People with AIDS Foundation. She raised nearly $6,000 for this event. In addition, she performed the WALK for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease). "I think that giving back is all reciprocal. You meet so many people and become a part of their life. I enjoy helping the community and beyond because it makes me feel connected to the bigger picture."
