The 2022 tournament was a great success
Ottawa, ON – For Heart Month this February, Colin Zappia will be donating $500 per real estate transaction to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation. He is also the Chair of the 2023 Wilbert Keon Memorial Golf Tournament, which benefits the Foundation. After months of planning, registration is now open for the July 10th tournament at the Royal Ottawa Golf Club.
“This year, we’re hosting the tournament at one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious golf courses; it’s added a new level of excitement to our event,” Colin says. “Registration only opened in mid-January and the foursomes are already 55% sold out!” To learn more and to register, visit: https://heartinstitutefdn.wixsite.com/wkmgt2023.
Colin also served on the golf tournament organizing committee last year and notes, “The tournament was excellent! We were sold out and raised just over $190,000.”
His love of hockey and years as a television host and colour analyst inspired a second, personal project in 2022. For every save in every game in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) during the month of February, he donated $0.20.
In addition to his own fundraisers and helping to organize the golf tournament, Colin was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation. He enjoys collaborating on a common goal. “It’s rewarding when someone brings in a new partner for the golf tournament, or a new idea is hatched in a board meeting.
“The reason I'm so invested in the Heart Institute is because my dad passed away from a heart attack in 2007 at the age of 60,” Colin says. “He had previously suffered a minor heart attack in 2001 and was treated there.
“When I began at Sutton, the owner at the time, Donald Abraham, was a big supporter of the Heart Institute Foundation and gave us the option of donating money through our payroll program. JP Chartrand, the current owner, has been happy to continue that tradition. I started doing various fundraising initiatives during Heart Month as well. In 2019, with a friend of mine who'd also lost his dad to a heart attack, we put together an indoor golf event and raised over $50,000.”
