Changing Children’s Futures

Kelowna, B.C. – Brad Premack is shining a light on the sad fact that one in four children in Canada experience abuse or neglect. He currently donates 10% of his net commissions to the Child Advocacy Centre of Kelowna, along with donating his time and other resources. This centre has a successful track record of helping children and their families change harmful patterns.

“The impacts of child abuse are devastating and long lasting,” Brad writes.  “These impacts lie at the root of so many issues impacting our community every day: mental health challenges, addiction, homelessness, suicide, criminal behaviours, and violence. Child abuse costs Canada $21.5 billion every year.”

Brad is committed to changing these statistics by supporting the Child Advocacy Centre of Kelowna (CAC), which takes a child-friendly approach as they raise awareness and deliver training and education. CAC tailors their approach to the unique needs of each child while providing the services of a strong network of experienced professionals.

Ginny Becker, the Executive Director at CAC, says, “Traditionally, when children have had the courage to come forward, what happens next can be scary and traumatic. These brave little ones are left to navigate a complicated and fractured system virtually alone. In the end, the child has been in several environments that are not child-friendly and have told their story multiple times to many different adults along the way. Ultimately, children experience significant additional trauma induced by the system that is intended to help them…. Our team walks alongside children and families helping them to feel less overwhelmed and empowering them to focus on their growth and resilience.”

Brad wishes for every child to have the successful life he has enjoyed. At Douglas College, he captained the men's volleyball team to a Provincial Championship and a fourth-place finish at the National Championship. He has been a member of three Canadian Champion baseball teams and participated in two World Series Baseball Championships, including a second-place finish. Brad went on to attend Simon Fraser University, double majoring in Economics and Philosophy.
