Replacing Stolen Backpacks
Salvation Army Kamloops resource centre co-ordinator accepts donation from Corwin
Kamloops, B.C. – Thieves broke into a storage area at the Salvation Army in Kamloops this summer and stole nearly 100 children’s backpacks full of school supplies, water bottles, discounts for haircuts and gift cards for footwear. Since the items were donated, insurance would not cover their replacement leaving the Salvation Army—and local families who would have received them—at a loss.
Corwin Kwan, a REALTOR® with Sutton - Centre Realty, learned about the theft on the news and was troubled by this senseless crime. It would cause hardship for children in need, especially as inflation has pushed up costs.
Despite living hundreds of kilometers away in the Lower Mainland, Corwin felt compelled to help. He rallied support from others in the real estate industry and drove to Kamloops to deliver his own personal contribution of more than 25 backpacks full of supplies and lunch kits.

“I can’t express our appreciation,” says Susanne. “This will go so far to helping children. Those are beautiful backpacks; the children will be so excited to have these. This donation will help to send them off to school with some excitement and the supplies they need.”
Corwin replied, “We all have to help each other in tough times. I feel very grateful that I can be part of your community today, thank you.”
To rally support, Corwin notes, “I reached out to Phil Moore and Phil started a post on Facebook in the BC Realtor Corner group. Bobby Iio, a member of the Kamloops group, also reached out to the Salvation Army and donated as well. Bobby is from RE/MAX. It was a collaborative movement. We all come from different companies, but our end goal is the same: We support our community near and far.”
