Stylish and Delicious Diabetes Fundraising

Delta, B.C. – When Sue and Jayson Gordon’s daughter Abby was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just eight years old, it changed more than her own life—it inspired her parents to help everyone coping with the life-changing condition. Sue is pleased to donate 2% of her realty commissions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, now known as JDRF.

She is also supporting JDRF’s Diabetes Awareness Month noting today is the last day to participate in this campaign and enjoy donation-matching and a discount from Ross Chocolates, a sugar-free chocolatier.

Sue loves to bring joy while supporting diabetes research. “In June, I held a client/friend comedy night with Yuk Yuks and all proceeds from the evening’s pizza sales went to JDRF. We raised over $600, and this is on top of my 2% commission donations.”

Earlier this month, Sue attended the JDRF Light the Way Soirée. “I bid on a live auction item, and with the highest bid, I took home a beautiful Michael Kors bag, private stylist shopping party, and a dinner by a renowned chef here in Vancouver at the Boulevard Kitchen and Oyster Bar for 10 people! I’ve yet to book the dinner, but in fun fashion I’ve booked a limo for December 5th to take myself and nine friends for the shopping evening at Michael Kors.”

Sue’s many contributions are helping to fund research in Canada and nearly 400 active, international clinical trials. JDRF was founded in 1974 to find a cure for T1D and develop treatments that improve quality of life. Someday, Sue’s daughter may be part of this effort. Abby expects to graduate from Queen’s University in April with a Science degree then begin her Master’s degree to ultimately embark on a career in endocrinology.

Until there is a cure, Sue and her husband, Jayson, take every opportunity to support JDRF whether it’s a fundraising event or attending an education session. “We believe our support and involvement helps with awareness and provides the badly needed funding to continue the research for a cure,” Sue says. “Our goal is turn Type One into Type None!”
