Walk/Run for the Cure

Orillia, ON – One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives, but thanks to fundraisers such as the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure, there have been incredible advancements in screening, research and treatments. In fact, breast cancer mortality rates have dropped by 49% since the mid 1980s.

Among the survivors are Michelle Kindou, Office Administrator at Sutton Group - Incentive Realty Inc., and REALTOR® Mimi Lee. They will be participating in the Barrie/Orillia Run for the Cure on Sunday, October 1st. This run is just one of many happening on that day in communities across Canada.

REALTOR® Joanna Smith is one of the organizers of the local event and she will be joining her Incentive colleagues at the walk/run. The trio of women is excited about making a difference in the lives of so many others who have been or will be affected by breast cancer. They look forward to joining their neighbours for a morning of fitness and socializing for a good cause.

The Barrie/Orillia run will take place the morning of October 1st at Heritage Park on Simcoe Street. Participants can choose from a 5-km and 1-km walk/run route.

“If you can’t participate, we invite you to donate at cibcrunforthecure.com, volunteer or become a sponsor,” Michelle says. “Your contribution will fund treatment, research, support programs and, for those dealing with the physical changes: wigs and prostheses.”

Michelle remembers the challenges of dealing with her breast cancer diagnosis. The support of friends, family and the medical community truly saved her life. She is pleased to report that she is now 12 years cancer free.

Bill Kindou, Michelle’s husband, and the Owner/Broker of Record at Sutton Group - Incentive Realty Inc., is a proud sponsor of the Run for the Cure. This is not their first contribution to the medical community. In 2021, the couple donated $25,000 to fund a treatment room in the Oncology department of the Orillia Soldiers Hospital as part of the to the We Are All Soldiers’ Campaign. As well, through charitable barbeques and other events over the years, their office has raised more than $50,000 for the cancer care centre at Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital.
