A World of Good

Vancouver, B.C. – This spring, Kane Schutz will be organizing his 25th charitable donation drive with friends and clients. Twice a year, this Sutton REALTOR® is pleased to be able to drop off contributions at the Union Gospel Mission on Hastings Street or the Good Stuff Connection, a North Vancouver thrift store that supports SAGE House, a shelter for women and children escaping domestic violence.

“Once, I had so many requests from clients to pick up items that I had to rent a U-Haul, which was fantastic,” Kane says. “My clients appreciate a chance to be involved in giving back.”

This spring, he will be taking items to the Good Stuff Connection in North Vancouver. “I encourage people to visit their website https://goodstuffconnection.ca and consider helping them out.”

Both the Union Gospel Mission and Good Stuff Connection welcome donations of household items and clothing in good condition that they can sell in their thrift stores (with proceeds funding their shelter and meal services) or give directly to their clients. The women and children at SAGE House often leave home on short notice and appreciate being able to make a fresh start with clothes, shoes, and household items provided by the Good Stuff Connection.

“I just learned that SAGE House helps more than 700 women on the north shore each year. It’s a shocking number.”

Kane personally donates to as many as 15 different charities each year. One of his passions is World Vision. He joined in 2008 when he sponsored his first child and even after the boy grew out of the program, they kept in touch. “It’s remarkable seeing him thrive in his job and his community. It’s a great feeling. About two years ago, I decided to adopt a second World Vision child and I may help a third child beginning this Christmas. This charity also helps with things like aid for refugees.”

The BCSPCA is another charity that captured Kane’s heart—along with the shelter cat that he adopted! He was a frequent volunteer for years, but as life and work took up more of his time, he shifted his focus to contributions and support of fundraisers. The BCSPCA lottery kicked off this week: https://lottery.spca.bc.ca.
